Background

Pete is a very experienced sailor and had bought a pre-owned boat, specifically with the view to doing the ARC about a year later. 

He already knew what system upgrades he wanted to do, but had been struggling to find suitable contractors.

How White Dot Sailing helped

After Pete contacted us, we completed a Readiness Assessment and together we reviewed all the points on our list and Pete’s original list. We discussed priorities and agreed a workplan, which we project-managed. 

Using a combination of our own technical team and sub-contracting to selected specialists such as rigging, meant we were able to work on multiple jobs simultaneously and all from one boat yard, which saved Pete considerable time and money.

Pete says:

"I bought my boat with the intention to do the ARC. I had been trying to get some quotes from local boatyards in Devon to get various jobs on the boat done, but it was proving difficult to get commitment in terms of cost and timings, and I was on a very tight schedule to make the rally start.

I heard of White Dot Sailing through the World Cruising Club, booked a consultation and spoke to Will, and they basically offered everything that I wanted. 

To have someone with experience of setting boats up for bluewater sailing and project manage it all, it was perfect for me.

Will filled me with confidence from the offset, he is very knowledgeable in all aspects of the boat, but also the crew, which is an area I hadn’t really considered beforehand.

Without White Dot Sailing, I don’t think we’d have been able to make the start of the ARC, or we would have gone under-prepared. But we were ready. At the start I could see some of the safety inspectors pulling their hair out at the state of some of the boats, and people were rushing around to buy equipment and get it fitted, I was glad that wasn’t us."
