• Welcome, let's broaden your horizon!

We provide a complete service to the boat owner, from bespoke own boat tuition to helping you manage your maintenance schedule.

Leaving you to concentrate on getting the most out of your sailing. Whether you want to take your family out for the day, or cross an ocean? We can help.

Just enter your details below and we'll be in touch.

  • New boat or new to boating?

For those new to boating, or looking for help with purchasing a boat.

Whether you have just upgraded or you're starting out in the world of boat ownership, working out your new systems and the commissioning process can be difficult. We can help get you out on your first trip quickly- making it a safe, stress free learning experience. By giving tuition in sailing and maintenance side-by-side, you can feel confident out on the water in all aspects of your boat.

A bit rusty or want to learn something new?

Getting some new skills can make for an exciting season!

Has it been a long winter, is there something new you'd like to learn? Rusty man-overboard procedures, mooring in tight marina berths, spinnaker handling? Many owners come to us at the start of the season wanting to gain some experience in a specific area of sailing. It could be directly related to your boat set up, or a new technique you've seen someone do.

    Need help broadening that horizon?

We can help you go around the corner or around the World...

We can help you cross The Channel, or cross an Ocean. If you haven't done more than a weekend away, or hop along the coast, then crossing larger expanses can be daunting. We can help plan the trip, bring the boat and crew up to speed and even accompany you part or all of the way.

We have experience in ocean crossings and are also involved with World Cruising Club and their range of events.

Is maintaining your boat taking up time?

Boat Management, where you make informed decisions.

Let's face it, maintaining your boat can take time away from getting on the water. Would you prefer to just turn up and go? We can offer any level of boat management, from suggesting great suppliers to fully managing your boat through the whole year.

Even a new boat has teething problems, we're experienced in working within the industry as a facilitator between you and your boat's commissioning agent. We have worked with many suppliers and can recommend and implement the correct maintenance work to keep your boat in top condition.

  • How we have helped...

    Mike & his Jeanneau

Mike wanted a hand moving his Jeanneau 379 from the Hamble to its new home in Plymouth. It's a journey he'd done before, but this was a new boat. He wanted some help getting down there and an extra pair of eyes working out the small niggles that can appear whilst getting to know a new boat. We provided peace of mind and another experienced hand on the boat.

"Having purchased a 37ft sailboat and deciding to relocate, although an experienced sailor, I had not sailed for a number of years. I decided to engage the services of White Dot Sailing for the trip. Not only was Will experienced, knowledgeable and full of good ideas for improving aspects of the boat, he was also easy going and good company. I would not hesitate to recommend his services. "

    Jan & David's Westerly

Both had done some sailing before and found themselves co-owner's of a lovely Westerly Corsair. Jan had tried intensive courses that crammed both on and off the water knowledge into a short amount of time, but it wasn't for him.

David had good sailing experience but wanted to get to know his new boat. We jumped aboard and filled in the gaps. Now they're both confident Captains!

"I’ve really enjoyed your teaching: very insightful, very helpful. You manage to inspire confidence, while standing back and allowing me to skipper. With you, I’ve carried out manoeuvres within the marina that I would never have dared to do on my own. Thank you."

    Ryan & his Elan 320

Ryan came to us with an Elan 210, and now has an Elan 320! He had done some basic sailing and now owned a boat, only he found out it wasn't the right one for him. Whilst helping him and his son get to grips with the finer points of sailing we also advised him throughout his upgrade as well as manage his new pride and joy. Now he has the right boat for him and his family and is well on the way to broadening his horizons.

"My family and I are so lucky to have met Will. He delivered our boat safely from the Netherlands, managed the process of customizing and improving it, taught us all to sail, and has been invaluable in maintaining the boat to a beautiful standard. He is a natural teacher who is knowledgeable, patient and at ease around adults and children. I appreciate his advice on all things related to sailing and his practical approach to solving problems and developing solutions."

    Why I do it

I'm passionate about sailing, and even more so when it comes to getting other people out on the water. Having worked in the marine industry for over a decade, I've seen many people spend time and money on a great sport, only to leave it due to a few bad experiences. Through White Dot Sailing I aim to help people at any stage of their boating career, be it the first time owning a boat, through to planning and coaching an ocean crossing. Or even coaching them through their first racing experience at Cowes Week or Round The Island Race.
