• Maintenance & Project Commissioning Engineer

    Based - Hamble UK, Contract - full time, Pay £DOE

    Role

    We are seeking a highly motivated Maintenance & Project Commissioning Engineer to join our team and help manage the current and future workload.

     

    The role requires a blend of technical knowledge, hands-on engineering and organizational skills. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate they already have a good knowledge of maintaining common boat systems; the ability to install or manage the installation of new systems, equipment, and parts; an understanding of managing maintenance schedules and a commitment to developing their skills. They also need to demonstrate they can communicate effectively with owners and suppliers. Ongoing training will be provided to the successful candidate to help develop their skills and areas required by the business.

     

    The contract will be full time and in-person, based out of our Hamble office. There will be 40 hours each week (Mon-Fri) with occasional overtime depending on demand within the business. UK and overseas travel is sometimes required.

    Tasks

    The post holder will have the following responsibilities;

     

    • Undertake maintenance checks and assessment which will include all common systems aboard modern yachts (both sail and power) including those capable of Bluewater cruising.
    • Manage the schedules for each boat, such as maintenance and cleaning
    • Diagnose faults whether they be electrical/ structural/ mechanical
    • Directly repair and/or commission the repair of those faults.
    • Directly install and/or commission the installation of new systems/equipment
    • Supervise contractors brought in
    • Liaise with suppliers on technical aspects/costings
    • Project Manage the above and provide reports of the work carried out.
    • Take the lead in instigating improvements in all the vessels under management

    Experience

    • Of working independently and responsible for managing their own workload(essential)
    • Of at least 2 years working in the yachting industry (essential)
    • Of working with suppliers to source key parts (essential)
    • Of working with external suppliers to deliver projects (desirable)
    • Of project management (desirable)

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Knowledge of yachts and of the key equipment/systems they use (essential)
    • Knowledge of prestige yachting brands (desirable)
    • Knowledge of suppliers to the yachting industry (desirable)Yachting (power or sail) qualifications (desirable, but training will be given)

     

    • The ability to carry out maintenance checks and fault find on standard yacht systems (essential)
    • The ability to systematically carry out maintenance tasks (essential)
    • The ability to diagnose faults (essential)
    • Excellent communication skills (essential)
    • Full UK driving licence (essential)
    • The ability to assist and/command vessels within marinas (desirable but training will be given)
    • Recognised boating qualifications sail and/or power RYA/MCA certificates or equivalent (desirable)

    Job structure

    This further appointment is due to continued growth in line with the company’s ambitious Business Plan. The Maintenance & Project Commissioning Engineer will be directly accountable to the company owner.

    They will also have to work directly with customers and suppliers, where they will be expected to establish good and effective working relationships with them.

    In addition, we help owners through our Adventure Projects programme, to prepare for Bluewater voyages; either bespoke challenges or events like the ARC and World ARC rally. This involves assessment, advice, project management of refits, coaching, and ongoing support once underway.
